There are three major types of
e-mail marketing available to today's online businesses;

Opt-in e-mail marketing
consists of sending e-mails to a list of addresses that has
been compiled by your company with permission from the user.
Bulk e-mail marketing is sending announcements to a
list of e-mail addresses that your company has purchased.
E-mail newsletter marketing is when an online business
identifies a e-mail newsletter that reaches their target audience,
then places an advertisement within that e-mail newsletter.
Opt-in e-mail marketing
Opt-in e-mail marketing is essential for most e-Commerce stores
and can benefit most online businesses. Through opt-in marketing,
you can keep your customers up to date on developments in
your products or service, including updating them on specials
and discounts. The most difficult step to opt-in marketing
is developing a quality e-mail list.
Bulk e-mail marketing
Bulk e-mail marketing is a very cheap method to reach a vast
number of potential customers. However, it is wrought with
pitfalls. Most bulk e-mail marketers SPAM their list with
junk mail, which does not benefit your business, and will
not increase the bottom line. There is a fine line between
legitimate bulk e-mail campaigns and SPAM. Identifying that
line, and staying on the correct side of it, will allow your
business to achieve results.
Newsletter marketing
E-newsletter marketing is our favorite method of e-mail marketing
available. However it is usually the most expensive per recipient.
But because the recipients read the newsletter, your advertisement
will actually be seen by many of the recipients. This is in
contrast with the other methods of e-mail marketing, where
most recipients will delete the message without reading anything
but the subject line.
