Google Do's and Don’ts

It’s not a secret on how to rank and be index in Google—it’s a matter of following the rules and knowing what Google likes and dislikes.

Google’s Do's:

  • DO – All websites should have a clear navigation hopefully design with text links.
  • DO – Create a sitemap which is a list of all the pages on your website. Sitemaps are easy to create and are a great search engine tool.  In fact, Google has its own special sitemap that we can create for you and add to your website.
  • DO – Provide useful information and write content for your web pages that accurately describe your business.
  • DO – Think about the keywords users’ type to find your website, and make sure that your website actually includes those words within it.
  • DO – Use text links especially for your navigation.
  • DO – Make sure that your TITLE tags are descriptive and accurate. This is a great place to use your keyword phrases.
  • DO – Make sure all menu links goes correctly to the page that it should.

Google’s Don’ts:

  • DON’T – Apply images to display important names, content, or navigation and other links throughout the website. The Google crawler doesn't recognize text contained in images.
  • DON’T – Have any broken links.
  • DON’T – Make too many links on any given page.  A reasonable number is fewer than 100.  If you have that many, separate the page into two pages.
  • DON’T – Use programs like JavaScript, frames, or Flash.  Google search engines have trouble crawling through your website with these programs.  If you do use JavaScript, make sure that the coding refers to it on another page.
  • DON’T – Use an abundant of insignificant keywords not related to your business.
  • DON’T – Exploit deceptive practices like cloaking, sneaky redirects or malicious behavior.

This is only a sampling of what Google likes and dislikes. Design 4 Dot Com, Inc. has been in business for seven years playing Google's game. We've had great success for our clients and have achieved awesome search engine results in Google and the other major search engines.
